Savannah Arts Academy Choral Program

Savannah Arts Academy became the first dedicated performing and visual arts high school in Savannah, Georgia in 1998. In the years since the school opened, the choral department has grown to five choirs and several ensembles. The choirs have consistently scored superior ratings at the GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation. As independent singers, SAA vocalists have distinguished themselves at All-State Chorus and All-State Reading Choir, district and state Literary competition, and the prestigious Governor’s Honors Choir Program. SAA choirs have performed in local Savannah venues, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center in New York City,& the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Russell Watkins, Director of Vocal Arts

Russell Watkins is a graduate of Georgia Southern University. He has been teaching since 2003 and since that time he has had the opportunity to teach all grade levels from Kindergarten to University. Mr. Watkins has been directing superior high school choirs for many years. For three of those years he also taught vocal methods, vocal pedagogy, and voices lessons at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia. Prior to teaching, Mr. Watkins performed operatic roles and ensembles with many companies around the U.S. and Europe.  He consistently produces competitive high school soloists, who have been praised for their mature sound and agility.

Savannah Arts Academy Choral Boosters

The SAA Choral Boosters were formed in order to directly support the choral department through organization of all events, media relations, volunteer coordination, travel logistics, financial organization, and fundraising opportunities. Membership in the SAA Choral Booster Club is $25 per family per school year. All checks written for choral purposes should now be made out to SAA CHORAL BOOSTERS.
