Cantabile
Cantabile is the Mastery Women’s Choir. This choir consists of freshmen through senior female choir majors, with auditioned students from other majors. This class is designed to teach intermediate to advanced techniques in choral performance. Vocal technique and sight reading skills are developed within each rehearsal. A variety of choral music is performed throughout the year. Cantabile will perform in all major concerts this year, as well as Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) in the spring. Other concert opportunities may arise throughout the school year.
Bella Voce
Bella Voce is the Advanced Women’s Choir. This choir consists of female choir majors, with auditioned students from other majors. This class is designed to teach techniques in choral performance, vocal technique, and sight reading while performing all genres of choral music from the western canon. Bella Voce will perform in all the main concerts this year, as well as Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) in the spring. Other performance opportunities may arise throughout the school year.
Concert Choir
Concert Choir is an Advanced Mixed Choir made up of voice majors, with auditioned students from other majors. This class is designed to teach techniques in choral performance, vocal technique, and sight reading while performing all genres of choral music from the western canon. Concert Choir will perform in all the main concerts this year, as well as Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) in the spring. Other performance opportunities may arise throughout the school year.
Men’s Ensemble
Men’s Ensemble is for all interested male singers, with a prerequisite of auditioning with the director of choral activities to determine basic vocal ability. All beginning male choir majors are required to sing in this ensemble. This class is designed to teach the basic skills of choral performance, including the Barbershop quartet style. Vocal majors in this choir are required to audition for All-State Choir. Vocal technique and sight reading skills are developed within each rehearsal. Men’s Ensemble performs in all major concerts, as well as LGPE in the spring. Other concert opportunities may arise throughout the school year.
Chorale
The Chorale is a mixed ensemble made up of junior & senior vocal majors. Auditions are required for all with certain allowances for sophomore boys to be included. This class will sing advanced and mastery works. Great dedication is required to be in this ensemble as the level of musicianship to sing the repertoire is very high. This class rehearses and performs many styles of classical choral literature from a cappella selections to major works. There is an emphasis on building musicianship skills through a program of sight reading, ear training, vocal technique and conducting skills. This choir will perform at all major concerts as well as LGPE in the spring. All members of this choir are required to audition for the All-State Choir and take private voice lessons from a local voice teacher or the director of choral activities.
Skylarks
This is an auditioned ensemble made up of female vocal majors who are juniors or seniors. As they represent SAA to many groups within our community, these girls must be responsible and maintain excellent musicianship. Skylarks are required to audition for the All-State Choir. They are also asked to keep an academic average of 90 or better. Their repertoire ranges from jazz to Renaissance music. Some songs will require choreography. This group will perform on all major concerts as well as many other community performances throughout the year. Skylarks must be prepared to learn and master much more music than other choirs due to the number of concerts. Skylarks are required to audition for All-State Choir and take private voice lessons from a local teacher or the director of choral activities.
Vox
Vox is SAA’s show choir. It is an auditioned mixed choir focusing on a full performance of singing and dancing each semester culminating in an end of semester show. This group is also invited to perform around the community. Auditions are in February and are open to all current SAA students.
